2024.09 Audax Subic-Bataan 200km + 95km Populaire

09/25/2024 | Carmela Pearson

Reminders for those who signed up for the 200km Audax Subic-Bataan and the 100km Subic-Bataan Populaire happening on September 28.  Please read through the below information for the ride this coming weekend.

REMINDERS:

1) Please read through the below link to fully understand what an Audax ride is all about.  This is a blog entry written by our very own, Redg Plopinio, 2-time Paris-Brest-Paris finisher from the Philippines.  Please read through the many materials and information in the audax.ph website to familiarize yourself on the unconventional format of the Audax.

2) Ride starts in the dark.  Please ensure you have the proper bike lights for the ride.

3) No QR Code system this weekend.  We will go old school and use the brevet card system.  Please ensure you have a ziplock/waterproof plastic to protect the card during the ride.  You must present this brevet card at the checkpoints so the marshals can sign/stamp on it.  For those who paid for the laminated QR code, it will be refunded accordingly.  We sent out an email about this on September 24.  Please be guided accordingly.

4) Please read the Guidelines for Support and Gear Vehicles for more information and penalties if caught. No direct-follow.  No support between checkpoints.  Please tell your support vehicle drivers to be mindful of this.   If proven upon sufficient evidence shown, penalties in case one is found in violation of the above guidelines shall include, but not limited to the following:

1st warning: 2-hour penalty added to elapsed finish time

2nd warning: non-homologation of the said ride

3rd warning: 2-year ban from joining any brevets organized by Audax Randonneurs Philippines

5) Route details have been provided the moment registration was opened.  Allow around +/-5% allowance.  There might be a few minor errors but with the cue sheet and the map provided, one should be able to navigate through the route without a problem.  Navigation is an essential skill in randonneuring.  And when in doubt, ask directions or go old school. *wink*.   We are posting those information again below:

*Distance provided may not be exact.  We tried to create the best route given the convenience of control point locations.

6) No parking along Dewey Avenue itself especially before the ride release.  Please do not obstruct the cyclists that are about to be released.

7) Emergency Numbers:

8) Subic-specific Course Reminders: We have just been informed that there are some roadworks (red portion in the photo below) being done in Argonaut Highway within SBMA and there will be some one-way sections within the base.  Going out should have no problem in following the GPX file and cue sheet.  However, on the way back, there will be a slight detour along Argonaut Highway.  You will have to pass through Maritan (the blue dots in the photo below) to head back to Mango Valley.  There will be signages to point you to the right direction but please be mindful not to head to Tipo!

9) Pre-Ride Check-In is at the conference room of Mango Valley 5 from 2PM-7PM on September 27.  Should you not make it, you can also do a Pre-Ride Check-In just before your ride but please expect a queue.

10) All participants will be released at 5:00AM.  Start and finish will still be in front of Mango Valley 1 along Dewey Avenue.

11) Please go through the AUDAX RIDE PROCEDURE.  It contains basic information on what to do during the Audax weekend and will answer the following questions: What to bring in the Pre-Ride Check-In?  What if I can't make the Pre-Ride Check-In? Why aren't medals included in the registration fee? What happens if I miss my wave release time?  What if I miss my Pre-Ride Check-In and not submit my Pre-Ride Check-In requirements?

12) To save us time in the Pre-Ride Check-In, kindly read through the waiver form in advance so you just need to sign it on-site.  If you can't make the Pre-Ride Check-In, please email (info@audax.ph) us a copy of your notarized waiver form and vaccination certificate/card.

13) Call to Action: NO LITTERING AT THE STOPS AND ON THE ROADS!  Let's continue to be good stewards of this sport. :)

Just like the Audax rides pre-pandemic, we will still keep the rides low-key and will be run by people who are doing this on top of their usual job/life.  Nobody works full-time for the Audax.  The people behind Audax PH just want to see the sport be sustainable and accessible to the Filipino randonneurs all over the country.

Audax is an un-marshalled and unsupported long-distance cycling event.  The route has been provided well in advance for you to navigate through the route.  Roads will not be closed to cyclists.  Please expect some busy roads through towns -  this is where one needs to practice responsible cycling.  Our advocacies still remain true: long-distance cycling, Cyclotourism and responsible cycling.  Thank you for those who have been seeing the bigger picture and have been very considerate from the very beginning.  The Audax is very simple but if done with integrity, it can be one of the most fulfilling rides one gets to experience.

With that said, see you all in the Audax!
