Information at a Glance

The PH1300 La Union and the Audax La Union 200km/600km/1000km will start from Awesome Hotel in San Juan, La Union on October 26, 2024.   There is a qualification for the PH1300 La Union - one needs to finish a 600km Audax ride or a 1000km Audax ride or an LRM event (Les Randonneur Mondiaux with distances 1200km or beyond) within the 2024 season.

The PH1300 in La Union and the Audax La Union 1000km will only be offered in the Philippines every 4 years.

Registration closes on September 30 for the 1000km and 1300km categories (or earlier if we reach the cap of 50 cyclists).

Registration fees for the 1000km and 1300km already covers accommodations (hotels/dorms) for ALL 4 nights and bag drop services for all hotel/dorm checkpoints.  Hotels/Dorms are on a shared arrangement.  Some might find it quite expensive but note that this fee is one of the cheapest registration fees in the world given the support to be provided.  Should you want your own room (where you can also share with your non-cycling family/friends), you can choose the option (OWN ROOM or SINGLE SUPPLEMENT) in the add-ons section during the online registration.

Cut-off time for the 1300km: 108 hours

Qualifying Ride for the PH 1300 La Union

Once you have finished your qualifying ride, please "Request to Register" for the PH1300 La Union and email info@audax.ph of your homologated qualifying ride (600km or 1000km Audax or any LRM ride within the 2024 season).  We will then approve your "Request to Register" and you can then proceed to complete your registration.

Event Insurance

We do have a personal accident insurance amounting to Php 30,000 for medical reimbursement.  Most, if not all, Audax rides and LRM rides in the world don't cover this.  Even London-Edinburgh-London didn't have this.  We strongly believe that cyclists should be responsible for taking out their own individual insurance to support their  cycling lifestyle.  Even without events, as long as you are a cyclist and you go out on the roads, you should be responsible enough to have this.

Pre-Ride Check-In

Everyone has to attend the pre-ride check-in on October 25.  There will also be a ride event briefing on that day at 5:30PM at Awesome Hotel in San Juan, La Union.

Controls

All of the control points are situated near sari-sari stores or convenience stores where one can buy drinks and have a meal. We would like to encourage to #SupportLocal as much as possible.  We also try to source most of the items needed for this weekend from local bakeshops, eateries and suppliers.

Most controls will provide the following:

- drinks (could be any of the following: water, coke, coffee or electrolyte drink)

- light snacks (could be any of the following: biscuits, fruits, local delicacies, hard-boiled eggs or pastries)

Expect no wifi and no charging stations at some of the checkpoints (excluding sleeping facilities).  We highly suggest you put a powerbank inside your "special needs" bags.

Bag Drop Service

1) A small colored bag will be provided for each bag drop location specified above.  This will be given to your during the Pre-Ride Check-In on October 25 at Awesome Hotel in San Juan, La Union.

2) Please don't put any bottles or tubes of liquids or oil in your bag.  Please make sure this is labelled with your name and the particular checkpoint where you want to have access to your bag.

3) Please hand your bag drop to us during the Pre-Ride Check-In from 2pm-7pm on October 25 at Awesome Hotel in San Juan, La Union.

4) Please claim your bag drop from the marshals and return it to them as well upon setting out (October 28 from La Union, October 29 from Pagudpud, October 30 from Vigan).  The marshals will NOT get any bag drops left in the sleeping facilities.

5) You may claim back your bag drop at the finish from October 30, 3-9pm at Awesome Hotel.  For unclaimed bags, we can arrange pick-up in Makati or sending it back to you by courier after October 30.  Please note that you will have to cover courier fees.  Please email info@audax.ph to coordinate.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1) I am registered to do the 1300km. If I only finish 600km, will it be credited for the 600km Audax Finish?

Yes, because the 1st 600km route of the 1300km and the official 600km Audax are the same.

2) Why is the 1000km and 1300km registration fees significantly higher?

We have incorporated the sleeping and shower facilities to remove the guess work from your end.  The accommodations are quite limited and we wanted to secure all this for the participants.  Please review the cue sheet and the locations of the sleeping/shower facilities.  Strategize wisely.  If you want to have an extra facility available to you at certain parts of the course, we can arrange this for you.

3) What happens if I arrive late at a control?

If the marshals are still at the checkpoint, you can have your brevet card stamped.  However, if they are not there anymore, you should take a photo showing that you are at the checkpoint at a certain time (take a photo of a watch or proof of this).  You can proceed if you think you can still make the total cut-off time of your ride distance.  The cut-off times have been designed to give you a proper estimate if you can finish the entire ride or not.  If you're not making the checkpoint closing times within the 1st half of the ride, that's a big sign that you probably won't finish the distance within the total cut-off time.

4) If I finish and I am out of time, what happens?

Your finish time will still be duly recognized and will be posted in the official results and you will be given your finisher medal. Out-of-time can be until October 31, lunch time.  However, your result won't be homologated and won't be an acceptable finish under Les Randonneurs Mondiaux.

5) Will you collect me if I don't finish the ride and decide to quit in the middle of the ride?

NO.  The audax rides have always been self-supported rides and you are responsible for your own health and safety.  However, should you not finish the ride, we suggest that you get to the nearest open checkpoint where the marshals are still working.  They can help arrange transport for you or if we have space in our vehicles, we would gladly take you with us going back.  However, you will have to wait for marshal duties to finish and there is no guarantee that there will be vehicles to carry you back.  Some checkpoint marshals will be on motorbikes and not in vehicles.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PLAN IN CASE THINGS GO WRONG.

6) Can I bring a Support Vehicle?

Please see below guidelines for the use of vehicles in all types of brevets:

- No assistance from the support vehicle in between checkpoints.  Rider may not have physical contact with the vehicle, get in, or rest in the vehicle at any time during the brevet.  Checkpoints refer to designated stops along the route (can be a brevet-stamping/QR code scanning checkpoint or simply an identified checkpoint by Audax Randonneurs Philippines).

- While the vehicle may be used to carry tools, food, clothes and gear, rider will only have access from the vehicle at the checkpoints.

- At night, the support vehicle can leap frog (without impeding other cyclists and motorists).  The vehicle may be in sight of the rider at all times during the night.   No direct follow.

- No drafting behind the support vehicle nor may the rider/s ride in the light of the vehicle.   No direct follow.

- Support vehicles should be mindful of other cyclists on the roads AT ALL TIMES.  No abrupt overtaking.

- Penalty for SAG violation:

     * 1st warning: 2 hour additional time at your elapsed finish time

     * 2nd warning: non-homologation of your ride

These rules are pretty straightforward.  Let's not over-complicate and over-think this.  When in doubt, ask yourself if the support provided is aligned with the "safety and security" reason of having the support vehicles.  A tire puncture or a bike change (in between checkpoints) is not an emergency.  Surely, one can ride from one checkpoint to another without having to be supported by a vehicle.  These are also the same rules applied in Paris Brest Paris and in most Audax-approved countries.  Let us not abuse this privilege given to the Philippines.  There is no shame in riding your support vehicles and quitting but please be honest.  Keep your integrity intact and be good stewards of this sport.

7) Do I have to bring my brevet card with me at all times?  YES.
