Reminders for the 200km Audax Baler and 100km Populaire on June 17

06/13/2023 | Carmela Pearson

Dear Randonneurs, These reminders are for those who signed up for the 200km Audax Baler and 100km Populaire happening on June 17.

REMINDERS:

1) Please read through the below link to fully understand what an Audax ride is all about.  This is a blog entry written by our very own, Redg Plopinio, multiple Les Randonneurs Mondiaux finisher (1200km and above).  Please read through the many materials and information in the audax.ph website to familiarize yourself on the unconventional format of the Audax.

2) Please ensure you have the proper bike lights for the ride as you will be riding in the dark.

3) Distance provided may not be exact.  We tried to create the best route given the convenience of control point locations.

4) Once your payment has been verified, you should have received a Registration Confirmation with your Ride-Specific QR Code.  If you haven't received this yet, please check your spam folder. If you still don't have it in your spam folder, you can log into your account in the audax.ph.  Go to \"My Account\" > \"Rides\" > Print QR Code.  Your account QR code in the site should be the latest one and the one you will use this weekend.

5) Please read the Guidelines for Support and Gear Vehicles for more information and penalties if caught. No direct-follow.  No support between checkpoints.  Please tell your support vehicle drivers to be mindful of this.   If proven upon sufficient evidence shown, penalties in case one is found in violation of the above guidelines shall include, but not limited to the following:

1st warning: 2-hour penalty added to elapsed finish time

2nd warning: non-homologation of the said ride

3rd warning: 2-year ban from joining any brevets organized by Audax Randonneurs Philippines

6) Pre-Ride Check-In on Friday is at The Pavillion, Costa Pacifica along Buton St. (just in front of the main Costa Pacifica hotel building)

7) Emergency Hotline: 0919-5927832

8) The descents on the route can be technical.  Please BE VERY CAREFUL on the descents.

9) Route details have been provided the moment registration was opened.  Allow around +/-5% allowance.  There might be a few minor errors but with the cue sheet, the map and the gpx file to be provided, one should be able to navigate through the route without a problem.  Navigation is an essential skill in randonneuring.  And when in doubt, ask directions or go old school. *wink*.   We are posting those information again below:

100km Populaire Cue Sheet w/ checkpoints and cut-off times: 100km Populaire Baler Cue Sheet.pdf

Audax 200km Baler Cue Sheet w/ checkpoints and cut-off times: 200km Audax Baler-Casiguran.pdf

Audax 200km Baler GPX file: Baler Audax 200.gpx

10) Please go through the AUDAX RIDE PROCEDURE.  It contains basic information on what to do during the Audax weekend and will answer the following questions: What to bring in the Pre-Ride Check-In?  What if I can't make the Pre-Ride Check-In? Why aren't medals included in the registration fee? What happens if I miss my wave release time?  What if I miss my Pre-Ride Check-In and not submit my Pre-Ride Check-In requirements?

11To save us time in the Pre-Ride Check-In, kindly read through the waiver form in advance so you just need to sign it on-site.  If you can't make the Pre-Ride Check-In, please email (info@audax.ph) us a copy of your notarized waiver form and vaccination certificate/card.

Just like the Audax rides pre-pandemic, we will still keep the rides low-key and will be run by people who are just doing this on top of their usual job/life.  Nobody works full-time for the Audax.  The people behind Audax PH just want to see the sport be sustainable and accessible to the Filipino randonneurs all over the country.  We have new processes in place and we ask your patience and consideration as we slowly adapt to this "new normal".  While we are trying to keep it simple and efficient for everyone, there will be mishaps.  Rest assured, we just need to communicate properly and we will try our best to address these minor issues effectively as we move forward.

Audax is an un-marshalled and unsupported long-distance cycling event.  The route has been provided well in advance for you to navigate through the route.  Roads will not be closed to cyclists.  Please expect some busy roads through towns -  this is where one needs to practice responsible cycling.  Our advocacies still remain true: long-distance cycling, Cyclotourism and responsible cycling.  Thank you for those who have been seeing the bigger picture and have been very considerate from the very beginning.  The Audax is very simple but if done with integrity, it can be one of the most fulfilling rides one gets to experience.

With that said, see you all in the Audax!
