03/18/2025 | Carmela Pearson

We have just concluded the 200km Audax Tacloban and 100km Populaire last weekend.  Please check the below files for the tentative results and let us know by March 22 of any comments/questions so we can double-check from our end and do the necessary adjustments before we submit the results to Paris on March 1.  You can reach us at info@audax.ph.  Let us not spam the Facebook group/page of Audax Randonneurs Philippines.  Please note that your result reflects your elapsed time = scanned time at the finish.  It doesn't reflect the elapsed time in your Strava or GPS devices.

Mr. Carlo Romualdez and I have been discussing about Audax Tacloban since February 2022.  I have been wanting to do an Audax in Tacloban as the cyclists from this region have been quietly joining the audax rides in Palawan, Dumaguete, Davao and Bohol.  Not a lot know but Manolito Go, Edgardo Nalda and Emmie Gerona of Tacloban's Pacer Group set the 300km Audax Palawan record in 2022 over one of the toughest 300km Audax PH course back then.  Everything fell into place when I finally came to Leyte last year to plot the route and discuss arrangements in detail with Mr. Carlo Romualdez and Ms. Camille Lacaba.  It was such an easy conversation as Mr. Romualdez has been quietly joining the Audax all over the Philippines since 2015 and understood what these rides are truly about.

Fast forward to this weekend, we finally delivered the first ever Audax in Eastern Visayas and the community, both locals and outside Leyte, came together!  While Leyte might not be deemed as a "cycling destination" that people would fly into just to cycle, it was truly nice to see randonneurs coming together at the Gateway of Eastern Visayas.  Aside from Leyte-based cyclists, we had cyclists coming from Northern Samar, Cebu, Batangas, Metro Manila, Surigao del Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Rizal and Laguna.

The course record for the 200km Audax Tacloban has been set!  Mr. Humphrey Uy of Pacer Group Tacloban clocked in 6 hours and 33 minutes.  Very impressive solo effort!

We have so many people to thank for the success of this ride.  Thank you to the City of Tacloban and Mayor Alfred Romualdez for hosting us!  Thank you to the Department of Tourism Regional Office 8, Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes, CESO III, Tacloban City Tourism, Ms. Abigael L. Gatela (OIC, City Tourism Operations Office), Slipstream Bikeshop and Cafe, Tacloban City Sports, Mr. Michael Octaviano (City Sports Coordinator), the City of Ormoc and Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez.  Thank you to Mr. Carlo Romualdez for making everything happen and Ms. Camille Lacaba for all logistical support and details.  It has been a joy organizing the Audax Tacloban with you all.  Thank you to the ever-dependable Audax Crew and Ms. Laura Charlton of David's Salon for the continued support!  And last but not the least, thank you to all the cyclists who toed the line last Sunday.  We witnessed cycling with integrity, grit and compassion towards your fellow cyclists.  Damo na salamat, Tacloban!
