Friends, the international randonneuring world is busy and we are surely as busy in the Philippines. Please see a few updates from Audax Randonneurs Philippines and from the Global Randonneuring world:
CHALLENGE LEPERTEL:
To honor the great contributions of Robert Lepertel to randonneuring and his work with Les Randonneurs Mondiaux to promote randonneuring throughout the world, the following were discussed and agreed back in 2019 about the Challenge Lepertel award:
GENERAL RULES:
1) a 1200km or longer event in each of 4 consecutive calendar years
2) eligible events are Paris-Brest-Paris or any event sanctioned by Les Randonneurs Mondiaux (LRM)
3) Not all 4 events may start in the same country
4) The 1st event can be in Calendar year 2019 or later
The first awards under the Challenge Lepertel can be earned in 2022 for riders who can complete four events from 2019-2022. Due to Covid, a lot of events were cancelled in the past 2 years. The LRM Executive has decided to make a one-time adjustment to the award for the four year period from 2019-2022. Riders who did not complete an LRM event in either or both of the years 2020 and 2021 may substitute events from another year in that period. To be specific, a rider's application would include four LRM events in at least 2 countries:
1) An LRM event (or Paris-Brest-Paris) in 2019
2) An LRM event in 2020 or another LRM event in 2019, 2021, 0r 2022
3) An LRM event in 2020 or another LRM event in 2019, 2021, 0r 2022
4) An LRM event in 2022
PROCEDURE:
The LRM will handle the Challenge Lepertel award in a manner similar to that used by the Audax Club Parisien. LRM will accept applications once a year. Because the award can use events any time in the calendar year, LRM will accept applications in January. Applications for 2019-2022 will be accepted in January 2023.
Applications will be accepted from LRM country representatives (in our case, through Audax Randonneurs Philippines), not directly from riders. Awards will be shipped to the LRM country representatives for distribution to the riders. An application form will be published to the LRM website in the next few months.
MEDAL DESIGN: Thanks to Ali Holt of the British Columbia Randonneurs in Canada for the handsome design of the medal.
PH1200 MINDORO: The 1st ever 1200km Brevet in the Philippines sanctioned by the Les Randonneurs Mondiaux
DATE CHANGE:
We are hoping to have the first 1200km official Brevet in the Philippines and coordination work has started with the province. Based on initial assessment, we are looking to have the PH1200 in Mindoro (starting and finishing at Puerto Galera) around 1st weekend of October as opposed to the initially communicated dates in August.
DISTANCES OFFERED:
Aside from the 1200km distance, we will also offer the 600km Audax and the first ever 1,000km official brevet. Special medals for the 1,000km will be given according to Audax Club Parisien rules.
PREREQUISITES:
