Tentative Results: 200km/600km Audax Subic + 100km Populaire on May 25-26

05/27/2024 | Carmela Pearson

We have just concluded the 200km/600km Audax Subic and 100km Populaire last weekend.  Please check the below files for the tentative results and let us know by May 31 of any comments/questions so we can double-check from our end and do the necessary adjustments before we submit the results to Paris on June 1.  You can reach us at info@audax.ph.  Let us not spam the Facebook group/page of Audax Randonneurs Philippines.  Please note that your result reflects your elapsed time = scanned time at the finish.  It doesn't reflect the elapsed time in your Strava or GPS devices.

We just held the 1st 600km Audax ride for the 2024 season!  This means we have newly-minted 2024 Super Randonneurs in the Philippines!  We can't wait to share this list and see it grow as we move forward in the next few months.  Last weekend is a testament of the growing long-distance cycling community in the Philippines as we saw a lot of veteran riders and a lot of new faces accomplish this distance.  We can feel the excitement of those who have also "Requested to Register" for the LU1300 as we saw registrations coming in right after their ride.  I can't wait for the rest of the year to unfold and see a lot of our local randonneurs get to experience a proper Les Randonneurs Mondiaux event in our very own country!

The 600km distance itself is quite a challenge as it is.  Add some heavy downpour, some scorching heat from the sun, the more-than-usual road works, the sleep-deprivation, the saddle sores, the 600km randonneurs last weekend did fairly well with a finish rate of 88.4%!  I take this as a sign that the community is maturing.  We heard a lot of stories of pain, cramps and one with a badly beaten elbow - but all still raring to go.  Our emergency team were attending to a lot of our cyclists but thankfully, none were considered serious and hopefully all will be back to 100% really soon.

Thank you to SBMA, the Province of Zambales, SBMA Tourism Office, Zambales Province Tourism Office, Mango Valley Hotel, Nutrition Depot Philippines, Weird Cycles, Maynilad, Manila Water, Batch 99 of the UP Upsilon Sigma Phi and Batch 99 of the UP Sigma Delta Phi.  Thank you to the DSI and Audax crew who worked round-the-clock over the weekend. When people ask us why we can't move the release time at an earlier time, one of my major considerations is for the crew to get ample sleep before working round-the-clock over the weekend.  We treat our crew like family and they have been serving the long-distance cycling community since 2010.  Thank you to Ms. Jola, who has been delivering excellent work despite being in Dallas.  Last and not the least, thank you for all the randonneurs who showed up and showed courage despite the crazy weekend of riding.  These rides are never easy and we thank you for the inspiration and for showing the rest of us how these rides should be properly done.  It was our pleasure hearing stories of sportsmanship, strangers helping strangers, inclusive teams who welcomed new folks and many more positive and inspiring stories.  Thank you, everyone! And see you in the next Audax rides!
