Inaugural Audax Bukidnon Routes

09/14/2023 | Carmela Pearson

Home of some of the best endurance athletes in the Philippines, it is high time that we put Bukidnon in the map of Long-Distance Cycling in the Philippines.  Also worth noting that 2 of our Bukidnon-based athletes finished Paris Brest Paris (PBP) last month and with such good times!  Jong Sajulga clocked in 68 hours and 12 minutes and Gregie Pamakid clocked in 75 hours and 35 minutes.  Very impressive times for their first PBP!

The 200km Mt Kalatungan loop is a 218km route with more than 4,200 meters of elevation gain.  Start and finish will be behind the Centennial Stage inside the Malaybalay Capitol grounds along Judge P. Carillo St.

There will be 3 checkpoints along this route.  The first one is at Tirso's@1470 on your right (as it is 1,470m above sea level) and it is roughly 58km from the start.  This is a new cafe restaurant where cyclists can stop to have coffee/brunch and enjoy the sweeping views it has to offer.  This is also the turnaround point for the 120km Populaire participants.

Around 93.9km, you will encounter a weird-looking junction of the Aglayan-Alanib-Ticalaan Road (AATR) and the Cagayan De Oro-Camp Kibaritan Road where one needs to take the left road that looks like a U-turn.

Junction at around 93.9km where one has to take the left road (looks like a U-turn) where the motorbike is in the photo above.

The 2nd checkpoint is the covered Habal-Habal terminal at the junction of Cagayan de Oro-Camp Kibaritan Road and Barandias-Dominorog Road in Brgy. Dominorog.  From here, turn left to Barandias-Dominorog Road.

2nd CP: covered habal-habal terminal in Brgy. Dominorog.

The 3rd checkpoint will be at JB Fuels on the right before the intersection of Maramag-Maradugao Road and Sayre Road.  This will be the last checkpoint before the finish and is a good place to top up your drinks and have a snack before the final push.  The final push to the Capitol grounds will still be on rolling terrain.

For the 120km Populaire, you may follow the 200km cue sheet or the 200km gpx file and just make u-turn after having your brevet cards stamped at the first checkpoint.  The roads going out is the same as the roads going back to the finish.
