Audax Batangas Route for January 28

12/30/2022 | Carmela Pearson

The Audax Batangas on January 28 is fast approaching.  We would like to thank everyone for the patience while we finalize a new route.  We had to revamp the entire 200km Audax route due to the collapse of the Bantilan bridge that connected Sariaya, Quezon to San Juan, Batangas.

We have been looking at different routes and wanted to bring the route around Taal Lake - thanks to the Batangas-based cyclists who have been suggesting a lot of interesting routes.  However, when we did our reconnaissance to go around Laurel, road closures were again apparent due to serious road works needed due to the typhoons.  The photo below shows the road block in Laurel.  We were hoping this would be fixed by now but it didn't look promising even up to our latest reconnaissance on December 30.   The alternative detours were not deemed safe for cyclists with very narrow and dodgy roads.

But the cycling Gods were still with us as we were able to finalize routes for the 130km Populaire and the 200km Audax.  The 130km Populaire route is exactly the same 130km route in March 2022 but with a few minor changes: 1st checkpoint will be the turnaround point at around KM65 and there will be a secret checkpoint along the Alaminos-Lipa road before the finish point inside Lima Technology Park.

The first 130km of the Audax 200km Batangas is exactly the same as the 130km Populaire route.  However, once you reach Lima Technology Center, you can proceed straight to Laurel, Batangas for the 3rd checkpoint at Jemz Store on your right.  From here, just head straight back to The Outlets at Lima Technology Park.

Ride details for both the 130km Populaire and the Batangas 200km have all been updated in the ride details.  Kindly go through them and let us know if you have any questions/concerns.  See you in the Audax!
